• Woman of Distinction – Linda Chamberlain, PH.D., MPH. A respected authority in the field of
Adverse Childhood Experiences, family violence prevention, resilience, healing and prevention of
vicarious trauma, Linda has shared her knowledge in trainings in local schools, Alaska villages and
at statewide, national and international conferences. Linda is a remarkable woman who keeps her
balance by mushing her dogs on her Howling Husky Homestead 15 miles out East End Road.
• Woman of Wisdom – Daisy Lee Bitter. A community organizer, leader and volunteer for over 60
years, Daisy Lee Bitter has had her fingers in the start-up of a number of Homer organizations – the
Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies, Kachemak Heritage Land Trust, Kachemak Bay Research
Reserve to name a few. 90 years young, Daisy Lee has taught at the local college, authored
several books, and is often heard Saturday mornings on KBBI teaching everyone about Kachemak
Bay natural history and biology.
• Young Woman of Distinction – Chloë Pleznac. An exceptional young woman, Chloë has
demonstrated leadership in her school, community and workplace and has inspired her peers to
follow her example. She is a peer educator at the REC Room and has presented at a number of
statewide conferences. Chloë enjoys music, including writing and singing her own songs, has
volunteered for the Farmer’s Market and Homer Council on the Arts, is a KBBI radio host, and has
organized, and presented, at Open Mic Night events at KBay Caffé.
The annual Women of Distinction dinner and auction is an opportunity to honor and celebrate women
in our community. The event is the major fundraiser hosted by the Haven House Board of Directors
to support programs and activities that benefit survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.
The event is scheduled for Friday, April 13th at 5:00pm at Alice’s Champagne Palace. Tickets are
available at the Homer Bookstore and Haven House offices.
